Multi-factor authentication

Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, is a second form of protection for your Enable account, which can be used alongside your password.

What is multi-factor authentication?

When logging into Enable, you will be asked to enter your email and password to sign in.

If you have MFA enabled, you will also be asked to enter an additional code before signing in.

Depending on how you’ve set up MFA on your account, we’ll either send you a code via a text or email, or you will be able to generate a code using an authenticator app.

Once you’ve entered the code, you will be signed in to your Enable account.

How can I enable multi-factor authentication for my Enable account?

Once you’ve signed in to Enable, go to https://apps.enable.com/security. You will be able to set up multi-factor authentication by text, email, or authenticator app.

If you already have MFA set up but want to disable it, you can also do this here.

Why do I need multi-factor authentication? Isn’t my account already secure?

All passwords in Enable are transferred and stored using current best practices – for more information about what we do to keep your password safe, check out our password policy help center article.

However, even though your password is safe with Enable, there are other ways a malicious user could gain access to your password:

  • If you use the same password for multiple sites, a data breach on that site would also expose your Enable password.
  • Malware installed on your computer may log your password as you enter it.
  • If you’re using a weak password, an attacker is more likely to be able to access your account by guessing your password.

Using a long, unique password in Enable and using anti-malware software can help prevent these. However, there’s one main benefit that an MFA code has that a password doesn’t: it’s short lived. An MFA code that works for one login won’t be valid for the next login. If your email / phone is kept safe, an attacker won’t be able to obtain the MFA code, and so won’t be able to access your account.
